Critique reflection
The primary responses from my class mates were that the cinematography was good, particularly the composition of shots like the establishing shot. and that the directions, in the form of acting, was well done. the first of these comments seems strange to me, as i felt that the cinematography in this film was lack-luster, however this feeling is probably a symptom of me knowing that the places the camera went out of focus could have been fixed by shooting in manual mode. and the second i completely agree with, the direction in this film was particularly good. this was because i had the advantage of getting an additional director, Ly, to help me in the construction of the film.
To improve, we should have considered what would happen in editing a bit more than we did, gotten smoother camera movements, shot in manual mode, and had a more consistent production schedule. the primary element of our failure, at least from my prospective, was not planning for editing as much as we should have. there were moments of the film were the editing seemed particularly bad such as the close up reaction shot after seeing the locker, not because they were poorly composed, but because we did not shoot long enough. additional it would have been to our advantage to get multiple shots of each event in order to be able to play more with tempo. smoother camera movements is just something that needs practice. shooting in manual mode is just a consequence of not being thought how too yet. and a consistent production scheduled is just a consequence of absences and field trips, and in order to fix this problem we would need to develop greater communication within the group. as we got no suggestions to improve from our class mates, there is no way to reflect upon this.
At this moment my strengths are primarily in Writing, Directing, Acting, and Editing. I am working too becoming a better cinematographer via simple practice, I was the primary cinematographer in this film. But, eventually I am going to hit a road block with this skill do to my visual problems and lack of coordination. on a similar end i am just practicing sound design, until i get it down. But, i feel that it is more important to make the skills i have better, as these are already broad. in writing, I should make my 'stories' a bit more understandable so my group will vote on them, even though i did not design the story for this film i helped fill in the holes in Ly's in a way that made a normal story incomprehensible. Just to be clear that is a good thing. The goal of my writing is to make jest at the concept of master narratives, and in this effort i feel i am successful. the other three are a matter of practice. The only particular in this is editing were i would like to begin exporting films to watch them full screen, as they would be seen on YouTube, mid edit to fix problems i cannot see on the small screen of Premier.
