Discorporate

         Film-Makers use camera movements to make a scene more interesting or give it additional meaning. These movements can also provide a practical purpose within action shots that can not be contained within the context of a single frame. When using these movements it makes the film appear more dynamic and interesting, this was the primary use of them within our film. They can also be used to create additional meaning, such as using a pan to connect two shots, or a zoom out to make the character appear small. for the viewer, these moments make the film seem more interesting, better embracing the artistic opportunity of cinema. And, if done right, can make the film appear more professional.
        By using a variety of shot types and angles it gives film makers the opportunity to create greater meaning within their film. this is most simply portrayed by using a worms eye shot to make a character appear more powerful. By using the language of cinema a director is able to convey more information about a character without directly telling the viewer. want to show a character in distress?; show them in a canted angle. on a simpler level they make films more interesting. we do not see the world through close ups, so by showing one in film it creates intrigue.
        In this project I took a new approach, not working as the writer and instead just working as a cinematographer and co-director. It was good to go out of my comfort zone and work on a film not entirely of my creation. But from this I learned that I cannot do effective camera movements. in future projects i would like to have others do all dolly's and zooms. this created the primary problems of the film. In both dolly shots the camera is a bit shaky. additionally in some of the zooms I stopped half way through and then continued going, making them not as smooth as i would have liked. But even with these failures in cinematography, I feel that the film is passable. In editing i was able to do some interesting things with color to add interest to the film and achieved a decent tempo. If i were to redo this project, i would have liked to have gotten more shots in order to develop a faster tempo during the color scenes. particularly the long ones like drawing the dog. In future projects i would like to return to my comfort zone working on pieces with greater creative control.
