Inception: manipulations of reality

        In the real world massive corporations have the ability to manipulate peoples views of themselves in order to gain what they want out of them. this comes in the forms of advertising, making a person think they need something that they did not know they needed, political messaging, making people vote against their own interests, creating support for US foreign policy, and creating a cult of anti-leftism; and capitalist realism, the idea that there is no alternative to capitalism best summed up by Slavoj Žižek when he said "It is easier to imagine the end of the world than an end to capitalism." In modern society the combined efforts of the news-media, education system, and  popular fiction (primary TV) have created a neoliberal society in which people are complacent to most predatory actions made by the united states government and multi-national corporation. Because large corporations have control of the media they can manipulate information in order to suit their interests and create a political landscape in which they are able to remain comfortable in their position of power. Equally, as the government can control what is taught in schools they can achieve a similar effect, for example you will hear about the human rights failures of the USSR but never those of the US in central america. The film Inception takes the radical extension of this societal control to directly planting ideas into peoples heads. In this film wealthy corporations are able to suit their interests by paying specialized people to give other people ideas that advantage their business. In the film they hire dream specialists, in real life they hire advertisers and lobbyists.
